Dear Jane: I Don't Know the Rules of Business Travel!

by 352admin 28. February 2013 11:58

Dear Jane,

I have just been assigned to a new matter that will require me to travel – my first such case.  How do I find out what the business travel “rules” are without appearing like a country bumpkin?

Signed,

There Should Be a Handbook

Dear There Should be a Handbook,

Congratulations on the new matter and the opportunity to become a seasoned road warrior.  There are number of potential places to look for rules:  the firm may have travel guidelines, the client may have travel guidelines and the more senior people on the team may have some travel preferences.  The best place to start is to talk with the next most senior attorney on the team and ask for guidance.  Your admin can probably help you with the official firm policies and procedures regarding travel.
