Dear Jane: I'm Back from Family Leave and Overwhelmed

by 352admin 28. February 2013 11:43

Dear JaneDear Jane,

I just returned to my firm after a six-month family leave.  Everyone in my practice area has been great about welcoming me back and treating me like I’m serious about my career.  I was hoping that my ramp-up time would be more extended.

Can’t Do One More Thing

Dear Can’t Do One More Thing,

Congratulations to you on the addition to your family. Congratulations to your firm for its attitude toward taking you seriously even as a new mom. The key to this dilemma is to have a direct conversation about what you need right now.  Do not worry if the answer to that question changes in three months, six months or a year. The balance of work and life’s other priorities is a very personal choice. Decide what you need and begin the conversation necessary to get it.
