Dear JaneDear Jane,

I recently started dating a fellow associate at the firm.

Signed,

Keeping It Quiet

Dear Keeping It Quiet,

Does the firm have any “rules,” written or otherwise about dating someone at the firm?  Do the two of you work together?  Does one of you supervise the other?  If you responded yes to any or all of these questions, there may be legal issues involved in your relationship.  If not, you will need to have some serious and mature conversations about what happens if the relationship works and what happens if the relationship does not work.  An effective communications plan vis-à-vis the firm will also be a necessity at some point.
