Dear Jane: My Firm is Changing the Rules

Dear Jane,

My firm just announced they are moving to a competency-based assignment and evaluation system. Won’t this hurt the women attorneys?

They Are Changing the Rules

Dear They Are Changing the Rules,

Any assignment and evaluation system that is more transparent benefits every attorney, including the women attorneys.  Having a more explicit delineation of the firm’s expectations will allow you to measure your progress and refine the specificity of your requests for assignments and assistance.  Take the time to discuss the new system with your mentors and the professional development folks at your firm so you are in a better position to identify and take  advantage of the opportunities afforded to you by this change.
