Dear Jane: Partner Disapproves of My Flip-Flops!

Dear JaneDear Jane,

I wear flip-flops into work and then change into my work shoes once I reach my office.  On the elevator this morning, I ran into my practice group leader who reacted quite negatively to the flip-flops.

Signed,

They Are Comfortable

Dear They Are Comfortable,

It is interesting to me how “flip-flops” have become such a generational trigger point.  First, you can choose to wear whatever feels right to you.  Second, people make judgments about you based solely on the way you are dressed.  You need to decide what to do, but you need to do so understanding the negative impact on your credibility that flip-flops will cause, especially with Baby Boomer (born between 1946-1964) partners.
