Meet SUSAN SNEIDER, an internationally recognized management expert in the legal industry and the founder of New Vistas Consulting. The well-known author of the American Bar Association's bestseller, "A Lawyer's Guide to Networking," Susan is also one of the authors of the seminal West/ACC four-volume treatise, "Partnering Between Inside and Outside Counsel." Susan's experience as a corporate general counsel, marketing and business executive, and management consultant to law firms and corporate and governmental law departments provides her with a unique ability to understand and respond to client needs.

What was the first thing you thought when you walked into the office this morning?
Who can I help?

What accomplishment—big or small—made you most proud in the past week?
Helping a client reach her ambitious professional goal.

What is the single greatest bit of career advice you've ever been given?
"Say yes." It's the most frequent advice I give in return.

What is the least useful bit of career advice you've ever been given?
"Don't worry. Things will work out." I believe that a little worry can light a fire under us to analyze what changes we need to make and then initiate action to move forward.

If you weren't a lawyer, what would you be?
Funny you should ask. I haven't practiced law in over 15 years. I enjoyed my career as a lawyer tremendously. You should always run toward something—not away from something.

What is one thing lawyers say today that you're pretty sure they never said 50 years ago?
You should have a LinkedIn profile.

Name one place or thing about Chicago that takes your breath away.
Lake Shore Drive.

What is the one piece of technology that you couldn't live without?
My iPhone.

A young female attorney asks you for advice on networking. What is one important piece of wisdom you share with her about building relationships?
Be honest. Be yourself. Be generous. Think long term.
