Making the Most of Summer Social Events

by admin 20. June 2013 15:53

Dear Jane,

The firm seems to have more social events during the summer than any other time of the year. Is it really necessary to make an appearance at all of them?

These People Are Not My Friends

Dear These People Are Not My Friends,

Many firms have extra social events this time of year because summer associates are at the firm. While it isn’t necessary to go to every one, each event presents opportunities:

- You could meet people at the firm with whom you don’t work;

- You could chat socially with people with whom you do work;

- You could meet and mentor some of the more-junior attorneys;

- You could demonstrate for some of the more-senior attorneys that you support the firm.

Go to each event with a shortlist of goals you’ve set for yourself, and it will ensure you get some return on the investment of time.
